Forgiven
a film by evan atwood and jason servi

This short film embodies in a modern-day setting a story that Jesus Christ told when He lived on the earth. Inspired by Matthew 18:21-34, this adaptation of the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant has a universal theme that illustrates God's immense love for us and His great sadness at the thought of losing anyone who does not understand and accept that they are forgiven.

Note from the Director, Evan Atwood:

Forgiven is a film that will change my life, and has already begun to do so. My name is Evan Atwood and I am a filmmaker, born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin among a family of actors. Though I have done my best in the past to imagine the reality of the bible, I had not before this point in my life come to grips with the breadth and depth of the parable of the unforgiving servant. Unfathomable as the phrase “not seven times, but seventy times seven” is at first hearing, how much more so when considering the daily struggle of that man who sees no immediate benefit to the forgiveness that he offers.

God can do this, but how hard it is for us. How does God continue to forgive such ungrateful wretches as we are? The question becomes deeper when working to understand the character of Gary and how he can continue to live without any anger toward Carl. This is not an invisible Being but a deeply hurting man, who has lost his precious daughter.

Retelling a story that originally came from the lips of Christ fills me with great passion to tell of His love for us. Consulting scholars’ insight on the parable of the unforgiving servant and searching my life to understand what Jesus tells me through this story has allowed me to see God in a deeper way than I have seen Him before. I want this experience for others. I hope that Forgiven can be made into a powerful film for the sake of God’s glory.

Sincerely, Evan Atwood – Director of Forgiven
